Linux Mint 7 RC1 Videos – Glorious New Features
The first release candidate for Linux Mint 7 “Gloria” has been released along with a great selection of useful new features. I decided to download the highly anticipated Linux Mint 7 release candidate and put the much talked about features to the test. I was so impressed I decided to display some of the new Linux Mint 7 features in these 10 simple how to videos.
This first Linux Mint video outlines the installation process which I found very quick and to the point. I found the same useful features from the Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope installer like the new timezone selection.
This Linux Mint “Gloria” video shows the Login window which caught me by surprise matching the background and the rest of the desktop theme perfectly.
This videos briefly shows the new mintWelcome tool of Linux Mint 7 which is a handy welcome window that provides support resources and other useful links upon startup.
Although Linux Mint 7 RC includes some eye catching artwork users may want to change the Linux Mint 7 theme, background, fonts, interface and desktop effect options. The Appearance Preferences window is reviewed in this Linux Mint video.
A few changes to mintUpdate include changelog tab support for Linux Mint packages, package size column, and more. This Linux Mint video shows the update process using mintUpdate.
My favorite change to mintInstall, the Linux Mint tool for installing applications, is the featured applications option. This new feature brings users a list of the top applications for quick installation. Check it out in this Linux Mint 7 mintInstall how to video.
Need to back up your home directory? Do it quickly and easily with the mintBackup tool shown in this short video.
The Linux Mint 7 menu included changes i had heard a lot about prior to using Gloria. The menu was impressive featuring application descriptions displayed by default and a very feature filled filter that allows searching the portal, repositories and more from inside the menu.
This Linux Mint video depicts a few smaller things I noticed have changed in Linux Mint 7 RC. This includes apt version command, mintDesktop, and Firefox Linux Mint search enhancement extension.
Xchat replaces xchat-gnome as the default IRC client. I tested out Xchat and tested how long it takes to get a basic Linux Mint questions answered on the Linux Mint channel.
